Dr. Afzalur Rashid is an internationally recognized accounting scholar, academic leader, with more than twenty-five years of experience in higher education across Australia, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and Bangladesh. He currently serves as Senior Lecturer in Accounting in the School of Business at the University of Southern Queensland, Australia.

In 2025, Dr. Rashid was recognized among the world’s top 2% scientists in Accounting, Business, and Management in the global ranking developed by Stanford University and Elsevier. His academic career reflects a sustained commitment to advancing business education, fostering research excellence, and preparing graduates for professional success in an increasingly complex and globalized environment.

Dr. Rashid earned his PhD in Accounting from the AACSB-accredited University of Wollongong, Australia. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), bringing valuable professional expertise to his teaching, research, and engagement with industry and professional bodies.

Throughout his international academic career, Dr. Rashid has taught and mentored students at undergraduate, MBA, DBA, and doctoral levels. He has developed and delivered courses in accounting, corporate governance, management accounting, sustainability, and business ethics, and has consistently demonstrated a commitment to student success, innovative teaching practices, and curriculum enhancement.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dr. Rashid has played significant leadership roles in curriculum development, academic quality assurance, accreditation preparation, and faculty service. He has contributed to continuous improvement initiatives, program reviews, assurance-of-learning activities, and professional accreditation processes. His collaborative leadership style emphasizes faculty engagement, innovation, accountability, and a culture of continuous improvement that supports both student achievement and institutional effectiveness.

As a scholar, Dr. Rashid has established an internationally recognized research program focusing on corporate governance, sustainability, carbon emissions and disclosure, corporate social responsibility, environmental reporting, and earnings management. He has authored or co-authored 45 peer-reviewed journal articles, including publications in leading journals such as the Journal of Business Ethics, Asia Pacific Journal of Management, International Review of Economics and Finance, International Review of Finance, International Review of Financial Analysis, Journal of Financial Research, and Journal of Contemporary Accounting and Economics. His research has generated significant international visibility and has informed scholarly and professional discussions on governance and sustainability issues.

Dr. Rashid is an experienced research leader and Higher Degree Research supervisor who has successfully supervised numerous Research Master's, DBA, and PhD candidates as Principal Supervisor. He is committed to developing the next generation of scholars through mentorship, research collaboration, and professional development.

His leadership and service extend beyond his home institution. Dr. Rashid has served in editorial and leadership roles for several international journals. He is Editor of the Australian Academy of Accounting and Finance Review, previously served as Guest Editor of the Australasian Accounting, Business and Finance Journal, and was Corporate Governance Section Editor for the Financial Times Top 50 journal, Journal of Business Ethics.

An active contributor to the global academic community, Dr. Rashid has presented his research and delivered invited workshops, professional training programs, and keynote addresses at major international conferences and institutions throughout Australia, the United States, Malaysia, and other countries.
