Andrew Hickey is Professor of Communications in the School of Humanities and Communication. His research has explored the influence of mass communication and 'public pedagogical artefacts' on public modes of learning and the enhancement of community cohesion, with his publications crossing critical pedagogy, public pedagogies and emancipatory social practice. He has led large-scale funded research projects in schools and school systems exploring the function of relational pedagogies, alternative learning programming and school-community partnerships. Andrew has also led funded research into innovative qualitative research methods and applications of ethnography in community development.
