Dr Anna Girardi is a Lecturer in Speech Pathology, Practice Education Coordinator, Certified Practising Speech Pathologist, and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) at the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ).
With more than 14 years of clinical and academic experience, Anna is a clinical academic committed to advancing speech pathology through research, education, and innovation. Her work focuses on improving outcomes for people with communication and swallowing disorders and translating evidence into meaningful clinical, educational, and community impact.
Anna's research spans dysphagia, paediatric ingestion injuries, mental health, digital health, and the application of artificial intelligence in speech pathology assessment and diagnostics. She has published extensively in high-quality international journals, secured competitive research funding, and developed interdisciplinary collaborations that advance technology-enhanced approaches to assessment, diagnosis, and care.
She is nationally recognised for her leadership in button battery safety and injury prevention. Through research, advocacy, and media engagement, Anna has contributed to raising public awareness of button battery risks and informing conversations among clinicians, families, industry stakeholders, and policymakers.
