Dr Daniel Maddock FHEA, is a media production expert and educator, specialising in visual and digital literacies and the innovative use of media in teaching and learning. Recognised for excellence in education with a Fellowship to the Higher Education Academy, Daniel is the Australian representative on the editorial panel for Cinematography in Progress, the world's first academic journal on cinematography. His PhD thesis on the practice of cinematography was nominated for the Chancellor's Medal for Excellence in PhD Research at Griffith University.
Daniel's research focuses on the form of film and creative media and how it is constructed for meaning. He advocates for a deeper understanding of non-literary forms of communication and expression, seeing visual literacy and linguistic literacy as interconnected elements of a whole literacy.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Daniel is an Australian Cinematography Society award winning cinematographer. He has a strong track record in the media industry, having produced internationally broadcast and award-winning television dramas, short films, music videos, and documentaries.
