With a PhD in Civil Engineering, specialized in Marine Structures, Dr Hamid Ahmadi has established himself as a dedicated and accomplished educator and researcher in the field. Graduating as the top-ranked candidate in his cohort speaks to his commitment to academic excellence. Currently, he serves as a Lecturer in Maritime Systems and Engineering at University of Tasmania (UTAS) and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ).

Before joining the Australian Maritime College (AMC) at UTAS, he was a Senior Lecturer and an Advance Queensland Industry Research Fellow (AQIRF) at UniSQ's Centre for Future Materials (CFM). Prior to his appointment at UniSQ, he was a Research Fellow at Griffith University. His international experience includes serving as an Associate Professor in Marine Structural Engineering at University of Tabriz, Iran, before relocating to Australia in 2022 on a Global Talent visa.

His academic journey spans over a decade, during which he has convened and lectured numerous Civil/Structural/Marine Engineering courses at various levels, from undergraduate to PhD. His SET scores have an average of 4.8 out of 5 over the past five years, underscoring the effectiveness of his teaching philosophy. He has been nominated for the ‘Lecturer of the Year’ award multiple times, including two consecutive wins in 2015 and 2016.

His contributions extend beyond the classroom, as evidenced by his extensive publication record. He has authored 111 journal papers (85 Corresponding Author | 62 First Author | 49 Q1) and presented 64 papers at national and international conferences. His H-index is 31 and his i10-index is 48 with over 2100 citations [July 2024]. He has peer reviewed nearly 200 papers across more than 50 scientific periodicals. He has supervised 9 PhD and 56 master’s students, in addition to mentoring a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. In 2020 and 2022, he was ranked among the top 2% of highly cited scientists globally by Stanford University.

Over the past five years, he has actively cultivated industry-university collaborations and secured external research funding within the fields of Civil/Structural/Marine Engineering. Notably, in 2023, he has successfully obtained an Advance Queensland Industry Research Fellowship (with a total value of $620,000) as the Chief Investigator which reflects his ability to bridge the gap between academia and industry.

Beyond his technical qualifications, he has a history of leadership and service within academia which has equipped him with valuable insights into quality improvement programs and institutional governance.
