Jessie is a Lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at UniSQ. She is a dedicated advocate for rural and remote workforce development and retention, with a nursing career spanning over two decades. Born and raised in a rural town, Jessie’s firsthand experience with the challenges and opportunities of rural living shaped her passion for improving access to quality employment and services in these areas. Jessie has been instrumental in developing the Charleville End to End Training program, addressing the chronic undersupply of nurses in Southwest Queensland. Her motto is keeping locals local. The Program has been endorsed by the Vice Chancellor and has been nominated for a 2024 Australia Financial Review Award. Jessie is an emerging researcher and is currently involved in several research projects that aim to further explore emergency nursing, immunisation practice and knowledge transition and implementation with a focus on employability for our graduate Registered Nurse’s, along with her passion for rural and remote health. With an extensive academic background, Jessie’s research is guided by a strong commitment to community engagement. Jessie’s current focus is completing her PhD focusing on the impact that social aspects and the rural and remote community may have on nursing student retention.
