I am Professor (Aviation) at University of Southern Queensland. Currently, I am the acting Aviation Discipline Lead. I obtained PhD in Aviation Management at Massey University in 2013, and worked with University of South Australia between 2013 and 2014. I worked in Hong Kong’s aviation industry (major airlines and Hong Kong International Airport) for more than five years.
I have published 58 papers in aviation and air transport, tourism, and economics journals and 5 book chapters relating to aviation policy and the airport and tourism sectors. My papers have been published in Tourism Management, Journal of Travel Research, Annals of Tourism Research, Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice, Urban Studies, and Regional Studies (Q1 journals, A* grade journal - ABDC list, Shanghai 219, or FT50). One of A* papers (Tourism Management) is my solo-authored research. To recognise my research achievement, I was awarded “Massey University College of Business - Early Career Research Award” in 2015 and “Massey University College Research Awards (Supervisor)” in 2022. In addition, I received the “Outstanding Paper Award” at the 7th International Conference on Transportation and Space-Time Economics at Beijing Jiaotong University in 2019. I have been the principal investigator for four (4) research projects and have provided advisory services to government and airport. I currently serve on the editor of Case Studies on Transport Policy, the guest editors of Current Issues in Tourism and Research in Transportation Business & Management, the editorial board on Journal of International Logistics and Trade (JILT), and act the reviewer for international journals. Also, I am interviewed by local and overseas newspapers about the aviation issues.
My research involves development and application of state-of-the-art techniques and methodology to investigate and analyse the contemporary issues related to the air transport industry and the dynamics of air transport policy, as well as tourism. I have been very proactive in supervision and successfully supervised 3 PhD students and 12 Master students as main supervisor and looking to grow the cohort of PhD and Masters students to research air transport, tourism and other-related issues.

I am deeply interested in examining the dynamics of the air transport industry and the tourism sector within the Asia-Pacific region. My focus areas include the regulatory environments of air transport, future tourism trends and their interplay with the air transport industry, the management and operations of airlines and airports, the development of airline and airport networks, and the formation of global airline strategic alliances.
