Kate is a senior researcher with the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) Centre for Applied Climate Sciences and a senior lecturer within the UniSQ School of Agriculture and Environmental Science. She currently works on industry- and agency-funded (e.g., MLA/MDC; QDAF) projects researching enhanced support for climate-risk decision-making and adaptation, with a particular focus on sustainable landscape condition and function, in agricultural (cropping and livestock grazing) production systems. Her research focuses on the condition of soil and water resources and natural ecosystems in agricultural production landscapes, particularly in response to climate variability and management. In this, she collaborates with industry stakeholders and research partners to co-design systems-level models that enable scenario testing of natural resource management, including policy, decisions and the value of seasonal climate forecasts in agricultural decision-making. She has over 20 years of professional and community experience as an ecologist and environmental scientist, spanning a range of fields including agri-ecology, climate risk management and sustainable land and water management systems.
