Dr Lori Delaney is an experienced intensive care nurse, academic, and emerging clinical researcher. With a clinical background that spans diverse intensive care settings, her research focuses on the critical role of sleep in recovery from serious illness, particularly the impact of clinical environments on patient outcomes. She collaborates with industry partners and healthcare designers to develop solutions that reduce environmental disruption and optimise sleep as a therapeutic strategy. Dr Delaney is currently an Associate Investigator on the NHMRC-funded DEFENCE study, contributing to national efforts to enhance the care of critically ill patients.
Dr Delaney is an award-winning educator specialising in acute and critical care nursing, with a passion for embedding emerging technologies and high-fidelity simulation into curricula to strengthen clinical reasoning, situational awareness, and critical thinking among nursing students. She has held senior academic leadership roles, including Program Lead for Nursing at The University of Queensland, and is committed to shaping future-ready graduates.
Dr Delaney’s professional development in executive leadership includes training through Oxford University’s Saïd Business School, IECL Level 1 Executive Coaching, and Brené Brown’s Dare to Lead program. Her commitment to leadership excellence and educational impact has been recognised through teaching awards, including the Student and Peer Recognition of Excellence in Education (SPREE) and contributions to teaching innovation
