Dr Marthy Watson is a lecturer in Curriculum and Pedagogy in the School of Education at the University of Southern Queensland. She has been an arts educator for over 25 years and taught the arts in secondary and primary schools in South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. Her research expertise lies in the intersection of reflective practice, arts-based learning, arts integration, and learner engagement. Her recent research focuses on establishing collaborative partnerships with schools to provide teachers with the support and resources necessary to innovate and transform their teaching practices by effectively implementing arts-based approaches. She is passionate about investigating children's expressive learning and engagement through the arts. Her research examines the potential of arts-based practices to enhance students’ critical thinking skills, foster active learning and cultivate a deeper understanding of the world. Through her work, she seeks to contribute to developing effective and engaging arts education programs that empower students to become lifelong learners.
