Dr Sopek has been working at UniSQ as the Vice Chancellors' Postdoctoral Fellowship for Women in STEMM since January 2022. This position supports UniSQ’s commitment to improving career pathways for women in STEMM as part of the Science in Australia Gender Equity Athena Swan Action Plan. Dr Sopek is a member of the Hypersonics and Rocketry group situated at the Institute for Advanced Engineering and Space Studies. Her research interests are in hypersonics and optics. She is also a part of the School of Engineering and teaching Introduction to Thermofluids. Prior to the current position, Dr Sopek completed a two-year postdoctoral position in the hypersonics group at the Oxford Thermofluids Institute, University of Oxford. She obtained her doctoral degree at the Centre for Hypersonics at the University of Queensland, her work focussing on laser diagnostics applied to hypersonic flows. She also holds a MSc from the von Karman Institute of Fluid Dynamics, where she worked on the topic of boundary layer transition in hypersonics. Dr Sopek started her tertiary education in her home country of Croatia, where she obtained a Master in Aeronautical Engineering.
