Tapan Sarker (h = 38) is a Professor of Finance at University of Southern Queensland. He is ranked by ScholarGPS as a top 5% academic in the world for overall contribution and publication quality in sustainable development. He writes about issues related to sustainability, macro-fiscal policy, climate finance, geopolitics, and emerging markets. He receives funding from the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australian Council for International Agricultural Research, National Climate Change Research Facility, Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, Oxfam among others.

Tapan has more than 25 years of teaching and training, research, administrative and consulting experience. Within the industry, he has been a consultant for leading MNCs such as BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd India. His interdisciplinary research expertise is in the areas of sustainable and green finance, public financial management, financing for the SDGs, business responses to climate change, and circular economy. His research has been cited by various government and international organisations including the Australian Senate, NSW parliamentary committee, the Asian Development Bank, G20, and the UN ESCAP. His co-edited book “Pathways to a Sustainable Economy: Bridging the gap between COP21commitments and 2030 targets of emission control”, Springer (2018) has been ranked among the top used publications on SpringerLink that concern one or more SDGs. He has been a Chief Investigator of a range of interdisciplinary projects supported by competitive/external funding (Cat 1 and Cat 2) over $3.5 million (over $1m as Principal Investigator) through the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility (NCCARF), the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), the Australian Council for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank. Tapan holds a Ph.D. specializing in behavioral and sustainable finance from the Australian National University and an MA in Business and Commerce from Keio University, Japan via the Joint Japan / World Bank Scholarship Program. He has a strong media presence and talks on trade, energy, geopolitics, climate change and growth. He has provided commentary and interviews on investment, trade and global political economy for leading media outlets, including ABC Science, Sky News, 9 News, 7 News, SBS, Sydney Morning Herald, ABC Brisbane, Brisbane Times, ABC Drum, and The Conversation.
