Professor Weena Lokuge is an expert in sustainable construction materials, fibre-composite structures, and the resilience of road infrastructure to natural hazards. With a PhD from Monash University and over two decades of academic and industry experience, she leads research in geopolymer concrete, recycling of reclaimed resources into engineered materials, and rehabilitation and asset management of bridges, culverts and floodways.
Weena has secured funding from the ARC Industrial Transformation Research Hub and the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC, has supervised fourteen research students to completion, and serves as Discipline Leader for Civil Engineering and Construction at UniSQ, having been Associate Head of School (Research) from 2022 to 2025.
She received the 2021 Faculty Excellence Award for Research and the inaugural Vice-Chancellor's Excellence Award for Women in STEM, and is an active member of Engineers Australia, the Concrete Institute of Australia, IPWEAQ, and the editorial boards of three international journals.
