Dr. Ya-Ling Huang has her Masters and PhD in Nursing, and is a registered nurse in Australia and overseas. She is a teaching and research academic in School of Nursing and Midwifery at University of Southern Queensland. She has been with emergency department research at the Gold Coast Health for several years. She is also an adjunct research fellow at the Griffith University and an adjunct senior lecturer at Southern Cross University. She has had a number of teaching, clinical and research highlights in her nursing career. The most highlights are "The Vice Chancellor Award for Research Excellence: Inspiring Researcher (Deans' Nomination), Southern Cross University" endorsed by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Academic Capability), "Award of Registered Nurse Expert Level, Nursing and Midwifery Professional Recognition Program, Gold Coast Health", and "Excellence in Supporting Learning Recognition Award: Recognition of Outstanding Contribution to Undergraduate Nursing Student Learning, Metro South Health".
She has also worked at various tertiary universities (Griffith University, Southern Cross University, University of New England) for undergraduate and postgraduate education. She has had an extensive clinical experience in various clinical settings in both acute and subacute care in Gold Coast Health, Metro South Health, Residential Aged Care and overseas, such as emergency department, medical assessment unit, adult intensive care (hospital trained program), acute respiratory, cancer and blood disorder, palliative care, acute medical ward and aged care. Her extensive health service research experiences are in emergency department research, Gold Coast Health, Centre for Online Health and Centre for Research in Geriatric Medicine, School of Medicine, University of Queensland. She was a mid-career research representative in Faculty of Health Research Committee as well as in the Executive Committee of Health Service, Clinical & Community Research Group at Southern Cross University.

Dr Huang's research focus is on the evidence-based practice, nursing education and health service research to promote patients’ health outcomes, satisfactions and to improve service delivery. The health service research particularly focuses in the areas of vulnerable populations including older people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, people with chronic conditions (i.e., mental health, respiratory), palliative care and end-of-life care in acute care settings, especially in emergency departments.
She has had an extensive health service research experience as a research coordinator and clinical nurse researcher in the emergency department at the Gold Coast Health. She has worked collaboratively with researchers and clinicians from health services, national universities as well as international universities. She has been involved in research projects which have attracted more than half a million fundings from various sources with a number of peer-reviewed publications predominantly in Q1 journals. Dr Huang has successfully mentored clinicians and nursing students in clinical research projects and published in peer-review journals. She has had experiences in interdisciplinary supervision and has supervised Master of Osteopathic Medicine Students towards the completion of their research projects. She is a credentialed Higher Degree Research Principal Supervisor for both Master and PhD levels, and she is currently supervising Higher Degree Research Students.
