Professor Zakir Hossain is a distinguished academic with a PhD in Statistics (specializing in Biostatistics) from Queen Mary University of London and an MSc in Statistics (Distinction) from the University of Nottingham, UK. He also holds a Diploma in Researcher Development Training from Queen Mary University of London. Prior to that, Prof. Hossain completed his BSc and MSc in Statistics at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

With over a decade of teaching and research experience, Prof. Hossain is currently serving as a visiting researcher at the School of Mathematics, Physics and Computing, University of Southern Queensland, Australia. He is a full time Professor in the Department of Statistics at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, and has served as adjunct faculty at North South University, East West University, Mawlana Bhashani Science & Technology University, United International University, and Stamford University in Bangladesh. Additionally, Prof. Hossain has played a key role in mentoring BSc, MSc, MPhil, and PhD students on research projects and statistical methodologies at the Department of Statistics, University of Dhaka. He is also actively engaged in collaborative research with a range of academic and industry institutions, both nationally and internationally.

Prof. Hossain’s research spans the major fields of statistical modeling, biostatistics, and public health. His work focuses on developing and applying advanced statistical modeling methods—especially experiment based GLMMs and real life data analysis—to address critical public health challenges such as dementia, long term COVID 19 effects, malnutrition, maternal and infant health, mental health in youth, and multimorbidity. He has published more than 25 peer reviewed articles in prestigious journals such as Social Science & Medicine, PLOS ONE, BMJ Open, Health Information Science and Systems, Statistical Computation and Simulation, International Journal of Clinical Practice, and the Journal of Public Health. He has presented his research at over 15 international conferences and seminars, serves as a peer reviewer for numerous scholarly journals, and holds affiliations with the American Statistical Association (ASA), the Royal Statistical Society (RSS), and the International Biometric Society (IBS).
